Question 1
What strengths?
  • Great for using our students. year 13s really step up. (Build the service element).
  • Great way for boys to see us. Good role modelling by our Prefects and Ambassadors.
  • Day was run well. Ambassadors did well considering their limited preparation.
  • Haka /Powhiri displays school pride. Year 8's looked on in Awe.
  • Student involvement.
  • The Music department LOL
  • A variety of activities
  • The positive pride demonstrated by our own students.
  • it was easy for the Year 8 to relate to ambassadors. Good interaction from teachers and prefects to attend SJC
  • Really great Day.
  • They got to see most areas of the school
  • Good demonstration of student leadership
  • Good involvement from Teachers and students. Some HOD's were more co operative than others.
  • Positive experience with the kids liking the geography activities and video.
  • Helpers interacted positively.
  • Plenty of year 8's turned up.

What weakness?
  • No wood tech, No Teo Reo, No Economics, No English, No Re, No Maths,
  • Feedback from some that the PE tasters were not that good.
  • Better organisation beforehand. A pre - taster meeting
  • How do we managed
  • This year missed the Wood tech
  • It is an unrealistic picture of the college?
  • It is a fake day really. Most kids would be bored if we showed them a real day. I do agree. If those young chaps would experience the daily routine of st John's College, they might leave with a different impression. Is it really a taste of St John's Day or a promotional day?????
  • Short Time frame. Would be good to get some more hands on stuff for the year 8's.
  • Would like to see the timing of this closer to the Open Day to create a closer flow on effect.
  • Limited preparation time for Ambassadors.
  • Limited technology used in rotations.
  • Late start meant that the timetabling of the Gym was not what was planned for.
  • Powhiri may have been a little intimidating.
  • More Teacher participation at Powhiri so it displays Unity. Extend teachers' involvement beyond Powhiri. Teachers are also part of the package.
  • Lack of detail to year 8 students. They leave with no memorabilia; Caps, Badges.
  • Absolutely nothing. Are we really blind to say "Nothing"? How do we want to sell our selves? Where is the role of the special character of the school?
  • Absence of many subject areas.
  • What is the objective, is this clear?
  • The start of the Day Time but it was worked around.
  • Year 8 did not see how we run it here or how a normal day goes.
  • Starting on time. Was the Bus late?

Recommendations
  • Start on time
  • I think it is the Right time of the year. we had boys from 17 different schools. It would be good to get staff out to those schools.
  • Needs to be planned in a better time frame and structure to promote SJC. How do we want to promote SJC as a brand?
  • Year 8's need to be prepared for Powhiri eg Speaker/ waiata send words to participating schools.
  • Have some measurable outcomes from the day. E.g. possible a Year 8 evaluation. I prefer to have a pre-visit survey of all feeder schools about their students' expectation of St John's College.
  • Sessions that cover more subject at St John's.
  • It needs to represent all of what SJC is about.
  • Better Sports Stations, they were a bit too stretched out and needed to be slightly more intense. Especially Hula Hoop games. We need to think outside the box. How do HULA HOOP games embody ST Johns College's values and Brand.
  • More Variety to stations eg Maths English, wood tech etc. as these are big parts of the school.
  • More History of the school, maybe a cool event for all the Year eight to participate in.
  • It would to be good to keep a record of thing like numbers.
  • What were lunch numbers, Food quantities etc 200 sausages,Bread etc
  • Needed two BBQ's check gas etc
  • We need to start thinking strategically about how we will brand our selves to our community.
  • More usage of technology mediums and games.
  • We need to get those in the classes with the Year 9 students to have a feeling for the way classes are run.
  • I believe that we need to step back a moment, set our strategy to reflect the SJC Brand. Based on this strategy, activities are chosen to fulfill such a vision.
  • (Maybe a thematic day of mixed - subject teaching and Sport).
